Enhancing ECU & DCU Connectivity for Modern Vehicles
With the advance of the automotive industry and the realization of Level 3 (Conditional Driving Automation) or even full driving automation, vehicles nowadays contain 100 or more Electronic Control Units (ECUs). The number of ECUs is still increasing as automakers continue to add new features and functions.
To fulfill the demand for real-time data processing of sensor technology, Domain Control Units (DCUs) have been adopted by the latest automotive electronic control systems. ECUs are grouped by function (e.g., engine and power steering control, safety features, and comfort features) and controlled by 4 to 5 DCUs. This sophisticated system is powered by multi-core processors and larger storage capacity, supported by high-speed and high-volume data transmission of automotive Ethernet network.
The coexistence of current and new structures is posing a huge challenge to automotive engineers. FlexRay, CAN, and other existing architectures are still seen in sensor systems. For the latest ECU and MCU, Nextron’s broad range of standard interfaces and components including 4mm cable-to-board connectors, 2.54mm & 2.2mm board-to-wire connectors, 1.27mm board-to-board connectors as well as BMS and press-fit power elements for inverters have been adapted by multiple EV brands. Nextron believes that reliable and cost-efficient components will continue to play a vital role in the automotive ecosystem.
Regarding domain controllers and automotive ethernet, Nextron provides Single-pair Ethernet products that meet industry specifications and are ready to support key technologies such as LiDAR and 4D imaging radar for autonomous driving.
